Some years ago a handful of youngsters used to gather regularly at the Basketball court of St. Mary’s church in Dubai to pray, fellowship and dream that Gods love may permeate the UAE. Today Jesus Youth has become a widespread network covering emirates.
Jesus Youth leadership in UAE have got teams who gather to pray, plan and implement various initiatives for the youth with the guidance of their respective service teams. The Service teams coordinate the activities of each group. One of the important program conducted by JY is the formation program, which helps the youth to understand the teachings of scriptures and church. A Jesus Youth National Team under the guidance of a Catholic priest oversees Jesus Youth Activities in the UAE.
Jesus Youth UAE have an annual day where they come together from various emirates and pray and share together. The annual day for 2003 attracted 950 participants from all over UAE. The one-day conference “The New Life”, focused on the need to adopt a Christian lifestyle among the Jesus Youths in UAE. Program was held as a follow up to the four different one-day programs that took place in the four emirates of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Fujairah & Sharjah during the months of July, August and September 2003. These programs had a common theme and were named “The Light”.
The annual gathering “The New Life” had its central theme based on Romans 12:2 “Do not conform yourselves with the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God – what is good and is pleasing to him and is perfect”. The talks, skits, music, Eucharistic celebration, adoration and other activities of the day revolved around this basic theme of ‘lifestyle’, the lifestyle suited to Jesus Youths of UAE. A team of more than fifty Jesus Youths worked behind this program with the Lord.
